From anywhere in Lisbon

The conference venue (38°44'15.01"N; 9° 9'16.96"W) is a 5-10 minutes walk from either of the suggested hotels. From any other parts of Lisbon you should take the Metro and get off at Campo Pequeno station (yellow line) or S. Sebastião sation (blue line), and walk to Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.

The Metro operates between 6:30a.m.-1:00a.m. A Metro ticket for one trip will cost you 0,80€. Initially you will have to pay 1,30€ for a permanent travel card which you will top-up according to the trips you make. Therefore the travel card will cost 1,30€ which includes one return trip. Once you have bought the card, each trip will cost you 0,80€. A 24 hour ticket will cost you 3,70€ and you can use it in the Metro and Carris' buses and trams. Alternatively you can buy a card between 2€ and 15€ and use it for the Metro, Carris´buses and trams and the boats from Transtejo/Soflusa. The price charged for each trip will vary according to the transportation and zone.

You can plan your trips using this route planner. There are no fixed schedules for buses, trams, and metro. Waiting times vary between 5 to 30 minutes depending on the time, queu and traffic. Waiting times for the metro are generally around 5 minutes or less.

Getting there


From the airport

You can buy a taxi voucher at the tourist information desk for 12,50€. Alternatively, a taxi trip from the airport will cost you around 6€ from the airport to the conference venue area and a maximum of around 12€ to other parts of the city (longer trips). At the start of the trip the taximeter shoud display 2€ (day) or 2,50€ (night/sunday). You will be charged 1,60€ extra if you place luggage in the trunk. You can simulate your fare here.

Carris' buses 5, 22, 44, 45, 83 and 91 all stop at the airport. You can check the routes and fares here. There is no Metro stop at the airport.


By car, from A2

Head north on A2, crossing the Ponte 25 de Abril (25 de Abril bridge). Continue on IP7. Continue on E01 (signs for A5/Cascais/A1/IC19/Sintra). Take the exit towards Praça de Espanha. Merge onto Eixo Norte-Sul. Continue on Av. Calouste Gulbenkian. Slight right at Praça de Espanha. Continue on Av. de Berna. You will see the conference venue on your right (38°44'15.01"N; 9° 9'16.96"W).

If you make a mistake and cross the Vasco da Gama bridge instead of 25 de Abril bridge, follow directions towards 2ª Circular/Aeroporto and then follow the detailed directions below as if coming from the A1.


By car, from A1

Head south on A1 towards the 2ª circular/Aeroporto. Head west on E01 towards Exit 4. Take Exit 6 and merge onto E01/Eixo Norte-Sul toward Sul/A2. Take the exit toward Praça de Espanha/Entrecampos. Turn right at Av. dos Combatentes. Slight right to stay on Av. dos Combatentes. Slight right onto the ramp to Av. dos Combatentes. Turn left at Av. dos Combatentes. Slight right at Praça de Espanha. Slight left at Av. Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro. Av. Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro turns slightly left and becomes Praça de Espanha. Continue on Av. de Berna. You will see the conference venue on your right (38°44'15.01"N; 9° 9'16.96"W).
